State Initiatives

In 2007 CP80 partnered with a local representative to introduce a non-binding resolution in the Utah State Legislature asking the U.S. Congress to take measures to protect children and employees from Internet pornography. The resolution passed unanimously and was signed by the governor.

As a result CP80 was asked to develop community initiatives and state strategies for protecting children until federal legislation can be enacted. Currently 5 legislative initiatives have been written:

Start an Initiative in Your State Today

This is your opportunity to support CP80 and the struggle against Internet pornography in your home state! If we can get 10, 25, or even all 50 states to pass any or all of these initiatives and laws, Congress will have no choice but to address this issue and give us a real solution to managing Internet pornography.

Follow these simple steps to get a resolution introduced and passed in your own state legislature.

1. Understand the Initiatives

Read the initiatives. Understand what each does and how it helps to protect children from Internet pornography. Be prepared to answer questions as to why these initiatives should become law in your state. Check the status on your state page to see what initiatives have been introduced in your state.

2. Identify and Call your Local State Representative and/or Senator

Select your state to find a link to your state legislature. Click on the link and follow the directions to find out who your local state representative is, who represents you in the state Senate, and how to contact them. If you need help please contact CP80. When you call your representative or senator tell them these three things:

  1. You are a voting constituent living in their district.
  2. Tell them about the initiative(s) and why it is important to you.
  3. Tell them they can visit www.cp80.org or contact CP80 directly for information on the initiative(s) and the solution.

3. Spread the Word

Once the representative has indicated that he or she will sponsor the resolution contact 10 friends or neighbors and ask them to contact their representative and ask them to support the resolution. Also ask them to contact their friends and neighbors and ask them to do the same.

4. Follow-Up

It is critical to follow-up with your representative to make sure the resolution has been introduced. Also, let CP80 know who is sponsoring the legislation. We want to track the passage of these initiatives across the country so that we can show Washington that the nation is serious about protecting children and families!

The CP80 Foundation is available to answer any questions you may have about how to get these initiatives passed in your state. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need help getting started!
