Parents are often shocked when they find out what there children can access online.
"Everything they can pull up, it's horrific. It's unbelievable" said Connie Sissons of Cape Coral, Florida. Ms. Sissions was attending a Internet safety seminar by cyber expert Russell Sabella.
"There are web-sites that promote things like eating disorders, self injury hate and racism," Mr. Sabella told
WINK News "Kids can easily, with three clicks, access the most hard core pornography you've ever seen." He compares the open Internet to "leaving your front door wide open in the middle of the night."
This is just one example of Internet safety meetings or seminars that are taking place almost nightly across the country. Parents often do not understand the power of the Internet and what their children see there.
Montana State University in
Billings recently hosted an Internet Safety Parent's Night, featuring an assistant U.S. Attorney and a special agent from the FBI. Parents were urged to "really getting in tune with your kids and knowing what they're doing is really what you've got to do."
