According to an investigation by the BBC sex and relationship therapists are reporting an increase in the number of male sex addicts. Of the 43 therapists interviewed 74% said sex addiction is a problem and that indulging in Internet pornography is now the most common outlet for the addiction.
One therapist said "The most debilitating was a man who had to have sex 10-12 times every day. Lately with internet pornography men seem to get addicted quicker". Another said sex addicts report their lives are "spiraling out of control". She continued: "In the last two years alone, Relate has witnessed a huge increase in people presenting excessive use of internet pornography, and compulsive sexual behavior as issues affecting their relationships."
A doctor in the UK is under review and after repeatedly viewing pornography at work. In one instance he returned to the porn just five days after being warned. He told a review panel that he knew it was wrong but was "powerless to stop."
How can we see sit back and watch these problems grow and not do something to fully protect our children from engaging in these dangerous behaviors? Millions of children are exposed every year to pornography - only time will tell how many of them develop sexually compulsive habits and addictions. We protect our children from addictive substances, and even from pornography in the "real" world. Why not on the Internet?
