According to The Guardian the UK Insolvency Helpline, and independent debt advice service, found that 1 in 4 adults ages 25 to 49 said their financial problems were related to money spent on sex. Sex is third behind only drugs and alcohol and shopping as the most common reasons people incur debt.
3/4 of the respondents were single men. The survey found the sex industry can have a variety of impacts on finances, including subscribing to Internet porn sites.
The helpline's social policy coordinator Richard Sorsky said that there are more and more people seeking help to manage their sex debt. "We feel that as computer, satellite porn and prostitution become more widespread it will give more men unrealistic expectations of their love lives and threaten couples' relationships. This has become apparent due to the number of men admitting to using prostitutes and our referrals to divorce or marriage counselling organisations."
We've made tremendous effort to protect children from the health and financial pitfalls associated with drugs and alcohol. Parents can reasonably expect that no one will sell or give their child access to these life-altering substances. Parents have no such reasonable expectation when it comes to pornography on the Internet.
Children growing up today are part of a porn generation. Unable to process pornographic images, many become addicted at a young age. We can now add increasing financial burdens to the growing list of impacts this porn generation faces.
