An article today in the British tabloid The Sun detailed how pornography ruined one man's life.
Jason McClain, a 34-year old IT worker became engrossed with pornography as a teenager. The Internet made it free and easy to access pornography at all hours: "I’d spend maybe two or three hours at a time, staring entranced at the computer screen. Time would slip away and I’d wonder what I’d been doing for the missing period. Afterwards there’s a comedown, and to cope with it getting back online to surf some more is an easy remedy. It’s a hopeless cycle and many guys stay up until 3 or 4am feeding their habit."
A recent BBC survey found that 74% of therapists report growing number of cases where Internet pornography stresses a relationship. Mr. McClain lost his relationship to porn: "Most girls find a partner’s porn habit very painful. There’s often a lot of anger and doubts that perhaps she never really knew the guy after all."
The Sun reported that a 2004 survey found that 7 out of 10 companies in the UK disciplined employees for accessing pornography at work. "This shows how desperate some people are to view it. They’re willing to put their jobs on the line for a quick thrill."
Mr. McClain continued: "With the Internet delivering free and easy porn, its little wonder men are getting hooked." Children are not the only group who don't want to see pornography on the Internet. Hundreds of thousands of individuals, men and women like Mr. McClain, become addicted to pornography. And, no matter how hard they try, many cannot break free.
Who said the Internet belongs to the Internet and those who tolerate them? We should be able to surf the Internet without the threat of pornography - with its addictive and devastating impacts - hanging over us.
