Internet Fuels Sex Addictions

WTOL in Ohio reported that a recent survey by the University of Chicago found that 22% of married men and 15% of married women have cheated on their spouse. The numbers are likely higher than that according to Dr. Tim Valko, who treats sex addicts in the Toledo area. "It's probably more prevalent than one would admit."

Individuals with sex addiction feel they must have sex or watch pornography. Dr. Valko says the addiction can affect every part of life "It has caused a major problem with them working, having a decent relationship, even sleeping because they're so consumed." The availability of pornography and anonymous sex service searching online has fueled the number of addictions.

Another therapist, Bill Jones, said that early childhood experiences can also influence sexual addiction. Mr. Jones and Dr. Valko agreed that the consequences can be devastating. Jones said "They're probably going to end up with a big therapist bill, jail, or it can take their life." Dr. Valko indicated that "Sexual addiction in a family can destroy a family."

We see daily evidence of how sexual and pornographic addictions destroy lives. And yet we continue to tolerate an unsafeInternet that is already capable of offering more choice and protection for our children.
