A Dallas mother her local CBS affiliate to warn other parents about what happened to her daughter.A classmate convinced the 14-year old to skip school - she ended up having consensual and non-consensual sex with several boys. In the end she was on the streets at 3 AM, afraid to call home.
The girl had attended a "sex party." Increasingly seen as a rite of passage, teens have sex with multiple partners, often under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Parents, school administrators, and health officials are concerned by the growing trend. Monica Tunstle-Garrett a Dallas County Health Specialist told reporters "We see a lot of this. . . It goes back to being in the in-crowd," she said. "[Kids think] if you want to be popular, this is what I need to do."
The mother said "They see things they think are fun, sex, drugs, on the Internet, pornography." Internet pornography plays on a child's inability to distinguish between myth and reality. Children exposed to pornography and sex on the Internet fail to grasp the real life consequences and dangers associated with sex. Kids then act out what they've seen - and their lives are changed forever. "It's not what you think," the 14-year old said, "I'd give anything for things to be same, and they're not. Ever."
