South Korea, one of the world leaders in connecting its citizens to the Internet is also striving lead the way in responsibly protecting children on the Internet.
Despite their best efforts, the National Police Agency reported that there were nearly 1,300 complaints filed against pornographic websites in the first 3 months of 2007. That is a 54% increase over the same time period a year ago.
This comes on the heels of reports last week that the Korea Internet Safety Commission, along with government agencies and ISPs unanimously agreed to review Korea's filtering and monitoring system.
The government also said it will prosecute anyone who posts obscene materials online and is making guidelines available to Internet users. The government says these measures are necessary to protect children online.
