PORNDEMIC ALERT: Child Pornography on the Rise

The Internet Watch Foundation, based in the United Kingdom, reported that from the tips received on its hotline they identified 10,656 URL's on 3,077 websites containing images of child abuse.

There was a "four-fold" increase of images portraying what IWF terms the "most severe" sexual abuses. Peter Robbins, the CEO of IWF indicated that the rise is "due in part to the identification of a growing trend in the use of remote image-storage facilities." The anonymity and lack of accountability on the Internet facilitates, and in some ways encourages, illegal activities.

IWF also reported that in 2006 82.5% of sites serving child pornography are based in either Russia or the United States. As a nation of laws and moral values the United States must do more to stem and eliminate this growing tide. This responsibility does not rest with the government or law enforcement agencies alone. Internet Service Providers must do their part to assist law enforcement in their efforts to seek out and prosecute child pornography.

The CP80 Foundation is committed to promoting accountability and responsibility on the Internet that will enable societies to better combat all forms of pornography on the Internet.
