More Potential Dangers of Wi-Fi

As wireless hotspots pop up in cities, parks, malls, and schools around world few are taking time to consider the dangers of unsecure, open networks, which allow children to surf the Internet free of any parental controls. It seems now there are other concerns.

Philip Parkin, the General Secretary of the Professional Association of Teachers in the United Kingdom called for the immediate suspension of wireless computer networks in classrooms. Mr. Parkin says that risks of wi-fi have not been fully considered.

The Daily Mail reports that wireless technology has been "linked to loss of concentration, fatigue, reduced memory and headaches" and possibly is a long-term risk for cancer. "My real concern," Mr. Parkin explained, "is that until there is a full inquiry . . . the nation's children are being treated as guinea pigs in a large scale experiment."

The health risks of wireless are still heavily disputed, but the risks involved with allowing children to freely access the Internet are well understood. The CP80 Foundation supports the educated and responsible deployment of wireless networks.
