Australian PM Committed to Clean Internet

Last year, Australia announced a $117 million initiative to offer every family in Austrialia a free Internet filter. Australian Prime Minister John Howard announced this week a more aggressive campaign to protect children, committing $189 million to the efforts.

The Age reports that under the "NetAlert" package $43.5 million will be allocated to hire 90 additional police officers to track child sexual exploitation online. $11.7 million will pay for officers to educate parents and children about Internet safety.

Mr. Howard also reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that every Australian family and library have a free filter to reduce threats to children.

"CP80 acknowledges and applauds Australia's consistent efforts to protect its children from Internet pornography," said CP80's President, Ralph Yarro.
