Cell phone comapnies and porn providers in Europe have already teamed up to offer customers full-length porn films via their cell phones.
ABC News reports that talks are heating up to do the same in the United States.
Steve Hirsch, the CEO of Vivid Entertainment says that he expects the market to take off in the United States, "People like to download a clip and send it to a friend and check out this girl and check out this scene."
One major block to these efforts has been how to protect children. Many children have cell phones, and the problems of age verification that are so often ignored on the Internet are even more difficult to enforce on a phone.
ABC News points out that pornography has often been on the cutting edge of television and video technology - driving development. This misnomer is pushed by the porn industry as a sort of way to "validate" their existence.
To suggest that technology would not advance without pornography is ridiculous. Pornography may have been, and may be, on the edge, but it is generally looking for just one more way to subvert efforts to protect children and unwanting consumers from pornography. Industry buffs are most excited about developing "on-demand" pornography where a user can tell a woman what to take off and what to do.
We ought to spend more time figuring out how to better protect children with the technology we have now; rather than creating new ways for children to subvert parents and expose themselves to dangerous material.
The CP80 Foundation is pleased to offer free training to individuals who wish to learn more about the Internet, pornography, current laws and the CP80 Internet Channel Initiative.
