"I've seen everything from your basic striptease to sexual acts being performed," police Detective Brian Marvin, a member of the FBI Cyber Crime Task Force of Central Ohio told Fox News "You name it, they will do it at their home under this perceived anonymity."
He wasn't talking about adults. Detective Marvin was talking about the growing trend in teen dating: sharing homemade pornographic pictures and videos. Teens record themselves engaged in sex acts with their cell phone or webcam. Many girls think they need to do it to catch a boy's attention. "A lot more girls are aggressive," explained one 18-year old senior, "Some girls are crazy and they are putting themselves out there."
Author Candice Kelsey says that it isn't limited to one group. "This happens a lot. It crosses every racial socio-economic group. Christian kids are doing it. Jewish kids are doing it." Mark Raiff, a high school principal in Ohio doesn't understand it: "They don't see anything wrong with it," he said. "It leaves me speechless."
Children are growing up in a world awash in pornographic images. 42% of children ages 10-17 are exposed to pornography on the Internet - they are not emotionally mature enough to process these images, and distinguish between what is real, and what is not. Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego St. says kids just don't get it. "Adolescents are not known for thinking things through — that's a generational constant," she said. "Now, with the technology that is out there, instead of taking a picture and passing it around the classroom, it's online, which is a whole different ball game. (Teens) don't see it that way."
Parents can help their kids avoid these problems by talking about the dangers of posing nude. If a teen must have a cell phone, get one without a camera.
